“This is the first, but not the last, development cooperation project implemented by Lithuania to rebuild Ukraine’s destroyed infrastructure. Support to Ukraine is particularly important at this time, because despite the ongoing war in the country, life is moving forward, and those returning have no place to live or to educate their children. That's why we are already rebuilding Ukraine’s infrastructure so that once the war is over, Ukrainians can work, receive medical treatment or study in their own country,” said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
Upon the completion of the mobile settlement project in Borodyanka, Tomas Matulevičius, Lithuanian Commercial Attaché to Ukraine, handed over the keys to the settlement to the Mayor of Borodyanka and signed a deed of handover.
“We hope that the Ukrainians, who have picked up the baton from the Lithuanians, will soon be able to accommodate families there. In the near future, our goal is to complete other infrastructure reconstruction projects in Ukraine, which would allow us to make everyday life of families who stayed in their home country at least somewhat easier,” said T. Matulevičius, the Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine.
The mobile settlement in Borodyanka has been focused on the needs of Ukrainian families. The living quarters are designed for families, and a playground has been set up outside to keep children active. There is a laundry, kitchen and recreation facilities to facilitate daily life inside the mobile settlement – everything that may be needed to live safely and successfully in a new home.
Lithuania has also been implementing other infrastructure reconstruction projects in Ukraine, including the reconstruction of a school damaged by explosions. The renovation should provide education for around 700 children. This project is expected to be completed in autumn this year.
Lithuania is also working on the renovation of a kindergarten in Irpin. The kindergarten, which was damaged by explosions and fire, is to be rebuilt and its renovation works have already been started planning to complete them in autumn of this year.
The Government has allocated more than EUR 11 million for infrastructure reconstruction projects in Ukraine.
