This equipment, just like the entire project having won at the International Mayors Challenge, is financed from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Foundation of the former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius delivered the first sets to the schools that already signed up, tried the lessons on the platform and now have most teachers involved in the project. Later on, all schools in the municipality will receive the sets.
“I would like to invite other schools to also follow this example and to sign up for the lessons. Not only for the priority of receiving guide equipment, but most of all for the opportunity to use a handy tool to deliver lessons outside the school, to get to know Vilnius better, to show practical applications of the subjects taught and the career paths to pupils,” said R. Šimašius.
Teachers in Vilnius city have already been using the lessons uploaded on the platform www.vilniusyramokykla.lt, offering their own lessons. Organisations and businesses have also been actively joining the project offering their own spaces and lessons.
“There is a real interest in the platform, and we now have almost 2000 teachers signed up and almost 500 lessons online. Our goal is to get teachers to actively use the platform – to sign up for lessons offered by companies and institutions and to adapt lesson plans created by other teachers to their own lessons,” says Unė Kaunaitė, Director of Edu Vilnius.
