According to Gitanas Nausėda, ten years of Pope Francis’ pontificate have demonstrated that the key to the hearts of people does not lie in loud dogmas, but in the love of neighbor and in doings that change lives constrained by stagnant rules. The President underlined that Pope’s Christian witness, his sensitive attitude to social inequalities, to those afflicted by external and internal illness, to the lonely and marginalized members of our community was an inspiring example to be followed by all national leaders and ordinary people.
“We sincerely thank you for praying for Ukraine and its people, for providing humanitarian aid, for working tirelessly to free the prisoners of war and to help return abducted children. Russia’s aggression and the struggle of Ukrainians remind us of the path of oppression and suffering that our people endured under the Soviet regime. Your prayers and support, Holy Father, help us not to lose hope and to believe that good will prevail,” the message of congratulations reads.
Gitanas Nausėda wished the Pontiff that his pastoral work would give increasing strength to the Catholic Church as it walked the path of this world, and extended his warmest greetings to the Pope, as well as those of his family and all the people of Lithuania.
