Trains will run between Lithuania and Poland on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Warsaw–Krakow route. LTG Link train will run from Vilniaus via Kaunas to Mockava, where passengers will be invited to transfer to the train of the Polish company for their onward travel into the Polish city of their choice.
“New international routes will allow us to ensure both a green transport and cultural and social connection. From today onward, Polish cities are easily and sustainably accessible every day for those who travel on business, young people who are eager to get to know the surrounding countries, or those looking for a good time. Passengers’ interest in this route has already exceeded expectations – just in a couple of weeks of ticket sales, about 1,000 tickets for this route were sold through LTG Link channels for the month of December,” says Linas Baužys, CEO of LTG Link.
Consistent efforts in cooperation with our partners in Poland have led to adding an extra coach to the Polish train with both compartments for a comfortable group travel and seating accommodations for people with reduced mobility, thus making travel to Poland accessible to everyone. This will also allow us to offer more additional tickets to our customers every day.
According to the company, most of the customers choose to go to Warsaw, another half to Krakow, and the most popular are 3-4 day round trips. Although most of the tickets sold through LTG Link channels for weekend and holiday trips have already been purchased before the first train, adding an additional wagon will allow more people to travel to Poland.
Those travelling on an international route are reminded to have their IDs on them. There will be a transfer between LTG Link and PKP Intercity trains in Mockava. The trains of both companies have reserved seats for international route passengers, and customers purchasing tickets for this route are offered extremely attractive ticket prices. For those travelling to Warsaw, the price of a standard ticket is just €25, and for those going to Krakow a ticket costs €30.
Trains running on the Vilnius–Mockava route have a capacity of a total of 130 seats. This means that the remaining seats can also be purchased by persons travelling within the countries – for example, these routes provide the opportunity to comfortably travel between Vilnius and Marijampolė every day.
LTG Link encourages those customers who did not have enough time to choose their tickets for the particularly popular routes via LTG Link channels not to get too upset. There are a few more options to get tickets, i.e., either to select an international route through the partner’s PKP Intercity website www.intercity.pl or to purchase two separate tickets – the one for the route section to Mockava in Lithuania (via LTG Link channels) and the other for the route section from Mockava to the selected destination in Poland (via Polish rail operator’s website www.intercity.pl).
The trains of both the countries have toilets and electrical outlets in each coach. In the territory of Lithuania, free Wi-Fi internet connection is available, and customers are offered to buy snacks and drinks on board.
The train departs every day at 12:10 from Vilnius and at 13:20 from Kaunas. The train arrives at Warsaw Central Station at 20:13 and in Krakow at 23:39 local time. The train leaves from Krakow to Vilnius daily at 04:01 and from Warsaw at 07:35. This train reaches Kaunas at 16:25 and Vilnius at 17:34 Lithuanian time.
LTG Link is part of the Lietuvos Geležinkeliai Group, operating as a separate company since September 2019. The company’s principal activity is passenger transportation by rail in Lithuania and abroad. The number of LTG Link passengers was steadily increasing before the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2019 a record 5.5 million people rode the train. Even though the pandemic reduced passenger flows between 2020 and 2021, the company has been successful in providing essential intercity transport services in the country throughout the pandemic period. The number of passengers transported by the company in the first half of 2022 totalled about 2.2 million.
