Dramatically decreased water levels cause Lithuanian and Latvian hydropower plants to produce less electricity. Water level in the Daugava River in Latvia was lower by more than one fifth compared to July 2013, because of this production of three main Latvian hydropower plants dropped by a third. Lithuania's Kaunas Hydropower Plant produced a quarter less of electricity as water level in the Nemunas River is record low.
Lithuania Power Plant unit 9 was working all last week in order to ensure reliable operation of the electricity system, it is planned that the unit will continue operating this week as well. Riga TEC-2 Power Plant was launched and Estlink 2 connection between Estonia and Finland was operational from 1 August after maintenance.
International Latvia-Estonia electricity connection throughput on 28 July - 3 August was on average used at 99%, Lithuania-Latvia - at 34%, Lithuania-Belarus at – 68%.
