The Lithuanian Cultural Season will be organised from September to December 2024 in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand and other cities. The political guidelines for the Lithuanian cultural season in France in 2024, covering aspects of Lithuania's presentation in France, Lithuanian public and cultural diplomacy, and international cultural cooperation were discussed and agreed in the cross-institutional working group set up by the Ministry of Culture.
"We have a strategic partnership with France, and in the field of culture this country is one of our most important strategic partners. During the cultural season, we want to talk about the issues that are relevant and important for both our countries, which are challenging Europe and its values, and for us is vital an authentic and close dialogue with France in the new geopolitical realities. I believe that the preparations for this season will be full of interesting discoveries for France and Lithuania, and will bring our artists and cultural organisations closer than ever before, and for a long time to come," says Simonas Kairys, Minister of Culture.
In the field of culture, the Lithuanian Culture Season will be coordinated by the Lithuanian Culture Institute and the Lithuanian Film Centre, while in France the Institut français in Paris will be the main partner. These institutions will be responsible for engaging artists and cultural organisations from both countries and for developing and communicating the programme of the Lithuanian Culture Season 2024 in France.
In the same year, a broader presentation of French culture is planned in Lithuania in cooperation with partners in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda.
