At the Legion of Boom initiative by Andrius Tapinas, public figure and founder of Laisvės TV, 2 million euros was donated by the people of Lithuania, half of it will be dedicated to buy Warmate loitering munition systems.
Two complete Warmate sets will be bought from the Polish manufacturer and handed over to Ukraine. A set includes launching and control equipment and ammunition. Such systems can carry different types of charge to be used against the enemy personnel, headquarters, and armored vehicles, including tanks. The requirement for such equipment has been coordinated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We wish that the drones bought with donated money would bring at least part of the victory in this fight to the Ukrainians. Every person who gives his money for the cause of this fight makes the victory come sooner,” Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas says.
5.7 kg in weight, Warmate kamikaze drones are easily transportable and operational within up to 30 km. It takes less than 5 minutes to get such a drone ready for the task.
Back in July the Ministry of National Defence handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine a Bayraktar TB2 tactical drone which was also crowdfunded for by the Lithuanian people but later given by Türkiye’s Baykar, the manufacturer, for free. The drone was armed with EUR 1.5 million of that amount and the remaining 4.4 million was used for lifesaving, humanitarian and reconstruction assistance to Ukraine.
