On July 7 Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas took part in the meeting of Presidents, Ministers of National Defence and Chiefs of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania and Republic of Poland in the border regions between the two countries. The first part of the meeting took place in Szypliszki, Poland, the second part – in Marijampolė, Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis General Logistical Support Battalion. They discussed defence planning in protection of the Suwalki Gap and the current tasks of both countries’ Armed Forces.
“Lithuania and Poland Alike will increase defence investments over the coming years. I am certain that the investment to come, NATO decisions taken and cooperation among all Allies shows that our defence will soon become even stronger. We are grateful to Poland for the cooperation, we are and we will be doing even more work together,” Minister A. Anušauskas says.
Minister underscored that Lithuania and Poland will make coordinated efforts to put into practice the NATO decisions taken at the Summit in Madrid. NATO Heads of State and Government unanimously agreed in June in Madrid to strengthen the eastern flank of NATO with forward presence brigades according to regional specificities. Other security enhancement measures mapped out were pre-positioning of equipment and ammunition, swift reinforcement, enhancement of maritime and air domains.
