The Royal Danish Air Force assets will strengthen the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states led and conducted from Šiauliai Air Base as of late January.
HDMS Peter Willemoes frigate will be on standby in composition of the NATO Standing Naval Forces.
The decision to additionally support the current strength of NATO capabilities in the Baltic states was taken in the light of the increased tensions at the borders of Ukraine and thus seeking to enhance the security of the eastern NATO allies, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and to deter potential threats.
Since November 2021, the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states is led by the Polish Air Force flying four F-16 Fighting Falcons.
