According to the ministry, this amount would go towards the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 on artists and cultural organizations.
Including the amount of 8.3 mln euros earmarked for this purpose in April, total allocations for support to the sector had reached 25 mln euros, the ministry said.
Support to the country’s culture sector and people of culture is part of the Economic Stimulus and Coronavirus (COVID-19) Mitigation Action Plan being implemented by the government.
The lockdown introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic has led to the temporary shutdown of cultural establishment, cancellation of concerts, exhibitions and other public events.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet extended the lockdown until May 31 but further eased the restrictions in force.
