According to a NATO eFP BG representative, Capt Evert-Jan Daniels, the soldiers whose COVID-19 tests came back positive were isolated at special quarters at the Gen Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area Švenčionys distr.). All of them are feeling well and are under constant supervision of military medics. Even tighter precautions have been applied to personnel flow management and hygiene requirements latterly.
NATO eFP BG leadership decided to move ill soldiers from Rukla where density of military personnel is high to another military facility with lower density in order not to put additional strain on the Lithuanian healthcare infrastructure. NATO eFP BG military medics with the current reinforcement have all the equipment they need to ensure further care and treatment of the infected troops.
NATO eFP BG military personnel do not have direct contact with Lithuanians serving at the Gen Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area, the latter sleep, dine and train in different quarters and territories.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces continues providing full Host Nation Support to allied forces. Lithuanian and allied troops are continuing the implementation of designated tasks with additional precautions applied concerning self-isolation, however, that does not impede the implementation of tasks.
The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group remains to be a cornerstone element of NATO deterrence and defence on the eastern flank of the Alliance. Military activities will continue with great care for the protection of soldiers’ health.
