"Lithuania can offer economically attractive business opportunities that, we hope, will be used advantageously", said Arijandas Sliupas.
The aim of the visit is to evaluate opportunities and perspectives of the New Silk Road, rail transport route for freight linking China, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Western Europe. According to Chinese delegation Lithuania could become one of the major gateways to Europe.
Lithuania gives much importance to cooperation with China in the field of transport. Last year, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Lithuanian Railways and China Railway Intermodal transport company CRIMT. ChinaRailway Company for International Multimodal Transport works with international cargo transportation by sea, rail, shuttle trains, services of logistics and transit, transportation of hazardous freight. Currently, CRIM is actively looking for new container train routes between Europe and Asia, whence, the company is particularly interested in container train "Saule" that operates between Europe, Lithuania and China.
Container train "Saule" connects nine countries starting from China and finishing in Belgium. It significantly reduces the time of shipment of goods. As a result, cargo shipped from China reaches Europe in only ten days, or four times faster than sea shipment.
