On the eve of the funeral, the two leaders will discuss political and economic relations, regional and energy security issues, cooperation in NATO as well as EU and the Eastern Partnership agendas at a bilateral meeting.
On November 22, the President of Lithuania and the President of Poland accompanied by their spouses and distinguished foreign guests from Belarus, Ukraine and Latvia will attend the Holy Mass at the Cathedral Basilica.
“Unearthed mass burials of the participants of the 1863 uprising discovered almost three years ago on the Gediminas Hill reminded us of painful experiences of our country and many years of struggle against oppression and enslavement. The state funeral that the whole Lithuania is preparing for is a testament to our heroes of the past and patriotic values. Those who completed their earthly journey long ago inspire us with their love for the homeland”, said the President.
The Holy Mass will be followed by the reburial procession to the old Rasos Cemetery accompanied by the sound the bells of Vilnius churches. The bells of all shrines in Warsaw will echo the sound of the church bells in Vilnius.
People of Lithuania are invited to attend the public events of the state funeral of the commanders and participants of the 1863-1864 uprising in Vilnius, to commemorate and thus give meaning to this historic event.
