Lithuanian Makrickas gets high-ranking Vatican position

Lithuanian Vatican diplomat, Monsignor Rolandas Makrickas has been appointed head of administration of the Holy See's Secretariat of State, Lithuania's public broadcaster LRT reports on Wednesday. The position is viewed as very important as the secretariat is in charge of the Holy See's economic and administrative policy, and is in charge of the Vatican's treasury. It's the first time a non-Italian has been appointed to this position, LRT noted. Makrickas confirmed he had assumed the position on Aug 10. Makrickas earlier served in Washington, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
