Lithuanian market retained its second position in the region (+22.2% to 3'849 units), Latvian market remained the smallest, but it was also the fastest-growing one (+23.9% to 3'451 units), meanwhile growth of Estonian market was the slowest (+1.9%), but this country was obvious leader by volume (5'522 units).
Estonia remained the largest market in the region by far, accounting for 43.1% of the total, while Lithuania and Latvia respectively had 30.0% and 26.9% shares. When calculated per 1'000 inhabitants, Lithuania is still in the worst position: its result is just 1.31, while Latvian one is 1.72 and Estonia is the absolute leader here with 4.21.
There were 10'951 passenger cars (+11.7%) and 1'871 light commercial vehicles (+20.6%) registered in the Baltic States in I quarter 2014. The best performing makes (brands) were Toyota (1'670 units), Volkswagen (1'495 units), Skoda (1'045 units), Renault (851 units) and Fiat (770 units). The most popular models were Skoda Octavia (463 units), Fiat 500 (421 units), Toyota RAV4 (416 units), Nissan Qashqai (370 units) and Honda CR-V (318 units).
The research is based on the common European-wide methodology, which considers a vehicle as being new only when its first-overall and first-in-country registration dates are the same. It counts so-called brutto volume as it pays no regard to any kind of shortterm registrations and de-registrations, and these are the subjects of another dedicated research.
