ECON noted that Lithuania, in terms of all of its economic data for the winter of 2014, was in compliance with all euro adoption criteria. Should Lithuania successfully meet the Maastricht criteria and in June 2014 gets a positive evaluation from the European Commission and the European Central Bank, in the summer of 2014 a decision should be adopted on the exact date for the adoption of the euro in Lithuania and the ultimate, irrevocable rate of exchange of litas into euro.
The EU Council will adopt this decision after consulting with the European Parliament and after the European Council discusses whether Lithuania is meeting the criteria laid down in the Maastricht Treaty.
