'We sympathize with our compatriots in Lithuania, who are subject to administrative harassment because of the attachment to Poland and Polish culture. We categorically condemn discrimination of the Polish minority, as this violates the adopted by Lithuania European standards,' says a special statement of the Members of the European Parliament from the United Poland group.
Representatives of the political group have expressed great concern due to the fact that the Seimas of Lithuania is not able to adopt the Law on National Minorities, particularly that national minorities represent 16 percent of Lithuanian population; the representatives also noted that Poles, as representatives of the largest national minority in Lithuania, have to fight with 'disfavour of administration and law complicating the cultivation of national and patriotic traditions' every day.
'We note with concern the growing Lithuanian nationalism, that is building its tradition and identity on the hatred of Poland and Polish people. This is reflected, inter alia, in the destruction of places of Polish national traditions such as the Rossa cemetery and the grave of the post-war chief of the Polish state Marshal Józef Piłsudski,' - stressed the representatives of United Poland.
