According to the minister, the main aim is that land would be used most efficiently, while the proposal to introduce requirement to speak Lithuanian was dropped after the experience of other countries was taken into consideration.
"The best conditions to carry out production must be created," said Jukna.
Another important thing, according to the minister, is that a farmer was competitive and had enough experience to work in a farm.
"We have discussed requirements for experience and qualification, a three years experience will be required, we also propose to include agricultural studies in it," said the Lithuanian minister.
According to Jukna, entities will be treated as related legal persons if they owned not 50% in shares of land, as it was planned earlier, but 25% in shares of land. "So that there was no abuse in purchasing land through related persons," explained the minister.
According to him, citizens of the EU countries and countries that have signed free trade agreement will be able to purchase land in Lithuania. Jukna also said that land safeguards would be applied both to foreigners and to Lithuanians.
