Road safety measures as well as speed control and warning systems will be installed along the whole road from Vilnius to Kaunas, Vitalijus Andrejevas, head of the Lithuanian Road Administration, said.
"The project is aimed at turning the motorway into a highway with the maximum speed of 130 km/h. We have the Kaunas-Klaipeda and Vilnius-Panevezys roads where the allowed maximum speed is 130 km/h. but we don’t have on the Vilnius-Kaunas road," Andrejevas told.
In his words, one of the key novelties in this section will be overhead structures warning drivers about traffic conditions.
On Dec. 31, the Road Administration launched a tender for the reconstruction of the Vilnius-Kaunas 10-95 km section, with applications received by Feb. 12.
