"The year of 2013 will enter into history as a turning point in Lithuania. I am very happy about your work, your contribution, since the success of renovation was determined by the fact that we were working together, as a team," said Deputy Minister of Environment Daiva Matoniene in her welcoming speech during the conference.
Together with Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis, Matoniene presented awards to the municipalities – champions of renovation.
Palanga Town Municipality was awarded for progress in renovation; Ignalina District Municipality was awarded for Enervizija, project of the year, Mazeikiai District Municipality was awarded for diligence, Kaunas City Municipality was awarded for unusual proposals, while Kelme District Municipality and Svencioniai District Municipality were awarded for being the fastest ones in renovation.
Renovation programme for residential buildings has been implemented since 2005. In nine years 500 buildings were renovated. Another 600 residential buildings have already received and ensured funding for renovation. It is estimated that currently 2,500 residential buildings are preparing for renovation.
There are a total of 38,000 blocks of flats in Lithuania that need renovation.
