To achieve this it is planned to establish to companies in Kaunas and Vilnius, whose 51% of shares would belong to Lietuvos Energija. It is said that this decision was made having regard to Lithuanian energy study on heating production and supply to consumers in separate municipalities. This was announced by Prime Minister Butkevicius in an interview with the national radio LRT.
"After discussions we came to agreement that regulation of heating price in Lithuania should be strengthened. We are going to establish a special purpose company, which would belong to Lietuvos Energija and thus 51% of capital would be in the hands of the state," said Butkevicius.
According to the prime minister, a tender would be announced over the rest portion of shares to attract private capital or municipalities.
"The third source of funding – the EU financing, assistance, for example, to reduce heating prices in Kaunas and Vilnius by 25 to 30%," said Butkevicius.
"It is a radical decision. I hope that in the short run a decision of the Government will be adopted that will provide national status for the establishment of two companies in Vilnius and Kaunas," said the prime minister.
