Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis said in a press conference on Friday that, according to current trends, scaffolding will be erected at 600 Lithuanian apartment blocks. The minister estimated that 64 companies of the CPO catalogue would share the work.
"Clearly, capacity at this moment is somewhat weak," the minister noted.
Seeking for renovation to proceed smoothly, the ministry started to expand CPO company catalogue. According to Deputy Minister Daiva Matoniene, new companies should be called to participate in renovation tenders next week.
Renovation will create work not only for more companies but also for young construction workers. According to Alvydas Rudokas, Director of one of the leading contractor companies Dauniskis Ir Ko, the company is preparing for expansion. In the nearest future, students of vocational schools will conduct placements at the company with further employment opportunities.
According to the construction specialist, people should not be worried that young workers will be working at the construction sites as they will be supervised by experienced staff.
1,683 apartment blocks are projected to be renovated in the second stage. The Ministry of Environment has a goal to prepare investment plans and receive resident approval by the end of 2014.
As of 23 January, investment projects have been coordinated with 1,341 apartment blocks, residents have approved 962 renovation projects. 542 houses of the second renovation stage have acquired financing from creditors, while 388 apartment blocks are conducting purchases of contract works.
