By the Order No. V-1022 of 12 November 2013 of the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania the new title of the course was granted to the Army Command and Staff Course. The course is aimed at raising professional qualification of the Lithuanian and foreign senior officers of land component, developing leadership skills and consistently acquainting the officers with contemporary methods of warfare, command and control, and training the officers to adopt these methods in practice.
The course was opened in attendance of Deputy Minister Antanas Valys, Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika and Commandant of the Military Academy of Lithuania Colonel Eugenijus Vosylius who were wishing the course participants to put their new knowledge into practice while performing their duties and to contribute to the improvement of their countries' armed forces.
Foreign officers expressed their delight about the opportunity to improve qualification at the Military Academy of Lithuania offering good instructors who are capable of embedding and expanding their students' knowledge while also sharing experience with other course participants. In this year's course two Latvian instructors will be assisting their Lithuanian colleagues.
The course was given a new name for cherishing the history and time-honoured officer training traditions of Lithuania relating to the activities of the Military School of the First President of Lithuania and Vytautas the Great officer courses the Soviet occupation discontinued illegally in 1940.
