"One of the priorities of the Lithuanian Government in the area of sports is to complete the construction of the national stadium – a multifunctional sports complex; the documentation for its funding is being prepared," said the Lithuanian prime minister.
According to Wirz, such sports complexes are necessary and can be used not only by professional athletes, but also by the society. The European athletics president stressed that it was important to attract the society, especially children, to the sports centre so it would be used as much as possible.
The prime minister informed that the Ministry of Finance had developed a funding model. It is expected to receive financial support from the EU structural funds 2014-2020 that could constitute 85% of total financing, while the rest part should be covered by the State or the municipality.
