"I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Mr. Tadeusz Mazowiecki, an outstanding Polish politician, journalist and philanthropist. On behalf of the Lithuanian people and on my own behalf, I extend sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to the people of Poland," the President wrote in her message of condolences.

Tadeusz Mazowiecki was one of the founders and leaders of the Solidarity movement.
