With the start of the flying season of this year, “LOT” can boast about the fact that flights from Vilnius to Warsaw Chopin airport are among the most frequent flights per week. As from the end of March, planes fly to the Polish capital from Vilnius and back 34 times per week.
Lithuanian Airports have calculated that in 2016 “LOT” had almost 2 400 flights going from Vilnius and Palanga and served more than 129 000 passengers.
“We are very grateful to “LOT” for their confidence which the company has shown after the restoration of the Lithuanian independence. Our passengers soon started liking both flights to Warsaw and connection flight opportunities offered by the airlines. We are glad that today passengers going from both Vilnius and Palanga airports can enjoy these opportunities, while in summer, at the time of the reconstruction of the runway of Vilnius airport, “LOT” will also try out the Kaunas airport”, - said Indrė Baltrušaitienė, Head of Communications and Marketing Department at Lithuanian Airports.
“We have a great pleasure commemorating our 25th anniversary of direct flights between Warsaw and Vilnius. From the historical perspective, this was one of the first “LOT” destinations. After the collapse of communism, we started a new stage of operations. Today we are enhancing our relations with our neighbours, and we offer to passengers flights from Vilnius to Warsaw 34 times per week. The Warsaw airport is a modern transport hub, which can be used to reach the remaining cities of Europe and the world, such as New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Beijing, Tokyo or Seoul”, - said Adrian Kubicki, Director of Corporate Communications at “LOT”.
An interesting historical detail is the fact that the first regular flight operated by “LOT” was the one going through the Vilnius airport. This is where the aircraft of the company flying the route Warsaw-Vilnius-Riga-Tallinn landed for the first time on 18 August 1932. The company started flying to Palanga airport in spring of 2016.
