It was the second multinational deployment for Maj M.Vaznys (the first one was the NATO Training Mission in Iraq in 2009).
The Star of Afghanistan has been presented since 2007 to military personnel and civilians for exceptional performance in multinational operations.
NATO has been conducting the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan since 2015. It is a non-combat mission aimed at training, advising and providing assistance to the Afghan National Security Forces, ministries and other authorities in order to provide stability in the country.
Currently there are over 20 Lithuanian soldiers serving at operational headquarters of the Resolute Support Mission in Kabul and Herat.
