Over the month (September 2016, against August), exports increased by 8.7, imports – 4.9%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of cereals (72%), edible vegetables (2.2 times), petroleum products (10.6%). The increase in imports was conditioned by an increase in imports of machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (15.4%), ground vehicles (11.8%), fish and crustaceans (33.6%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 8.6, imports – 5.5%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 9.9%, mineral products excluded – by 10.8%.
Over the year (September 2016, against September 2015), exports decreased by 0.6, imports – 1.9%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (21.2%), oil seeds and oleaginous fruits (70.3%) and cereals (30.4%). The decrease in imports was conditioned by a decrease in imports of petroleum products (36%), articles of iron or steel (20.8%). Mineral products excluded, exports of goods increased by 2.9, imports – 1.5%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 2.2%, mineral products excluded – by 1.6%.
In January–September 2016, against the same period of 2015, exports decreased by 2.3, imports – 4.8%. The decrease in exports was determined by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (25%), fertilisers (26.5%), edible fruit and nuts (49.5%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of crude petroleum (18.2%), edible fruit and nuts (40.4%), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (4.4%). Due to a decrease in price, the exports of petroleum products and imports of crude petroleum decreased, although in terms of exported and imported amount in tonnes, exports and imports increased by 8.6 and 5% respectively. Mineral products excluded, exports of goods increased by 2.2, imports – 0.9%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 2.1%, mineral products excluded – increased by 3.5%. Exports to Russia decreased by 3.8%, of goods of Lithuanian origin – 10.5%, which was mainly conditioned by a decrease in exports of machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (29.5%), fertilisers (80.6%), furniture (33%); meat and milk products were not exported. Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia decreased by 18.2%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – by 2.8% (in January–September 2015, exports of such products amounted to EUR 45.9 mln, in January–September 2016 – EUR 44.7 mln).
In January–September 2016, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (13.2%), Latvia (9.9%), Poland (9.2%) and Germany (7.8%), while in imports – Russia (13.8%), Germany (12.5%), Poland (11%) and Latvia (7.3%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.2%), the United States (8.5%), Latvia (7.5%), Poland (7.4%) and Sweden (6.8%).
In January–September 2016, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (14.5 and 18% respectively), mineral products (13.2 and 17.4% respectively), and products of the chemical and allied industries (11.1 and 12.4% respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (17%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (12.2%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (8.9%).
