In case of successful project implementation of plans, this will be the first hotel of the chain in the Baltic states.
"After analyzing the market, we saw that four-star hotels were the most popular in Lithuania last year and, compared with hotels of higher class, welcomed 5-6 times more guests. Therefore, we decided that the trademark would best suit the local market," Hanner board chairman Arvydas Avulis told a news conference on Wednesday.
Markus Lehnert, Marriott International 's vice-president for the European region, said the deal with Hanner was had been finalized very fast.
"We are always happy to enter a new market. The deal is one of the fastest we have concluded. We are large companies, and this is not easy to do," Lehnert told Vilnius journalists.
Construction of the 200-room hotel has already been started, with investment of 20 mln euros planned in the project.
In Lehnert 's words, a contract on building a 200-room hotel with a SPA center in Palanga should be signed within the coming four months, with the 20 million euro project to be finished in the second half of 2018.
Marriot International operates 5,700 hotels worldwide.
