Professor Kestutis Strupas, the head of the Santariskes Clinic, said doctors did everything possible to save the life of the 34-year-old MP.
"His condition kept changing over the past months and it sometimes seemed we could celebrate an achievement. Unfortunately, pancreatitis is an insidious disease that is difficult to predict. We are very sad today to see that our efforts against the disease were not enough," Strupas said in a press release.
Pozela was hospitalized in mid-August with acute gastrointestinal disorder and stomach pains, he was later diagnosed with biliary pancreatitis.
Pozela was sworn in as Lithuania's health minister on March 15. He was also re-elected to the new parliament of 2013-2020 as the Social Democratic Party's candidate earlier this month.
