Minister R. Sinkevičius: „We aim at secure and user-friendly online transactions”

During the Presidency of the Council of the European Union Lithuania will seek for such priorities in the area of information society and telecommunication: create the background for secure, reliable and user-friendly online transactions and to ensure the development of interstate telecommunications infrastructure. Rimantas Sinkevičius, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania introduced the above priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency to Amalia Sartori, President of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) of the European Parliament as well as to the other ITRE members.

Lithuania will co-operate with the ITRE Committee closely during the debates of the European Commission proposal on the Regulation of the Electronic Identification and Digital Trust Services for the Domestic Market.

The Minister announced that „this is the priority document, which will facilitate creation of the European Single Digital Market, as it is planned to increase trust in international online transactions and facilitate the online communication between citizens, business society as well as governmental institutions.

The Minister acknowledges that the European Union seeks to develop the background for secure, reliable and user-friendly online transactions. This would facilitate the development of the digital business services market.

The European Commission aims to develop the regulatory system of e-stamps, e-time stamping, e-delivery services, e-documents, identification of the websites. Regulation will help to remove barriers within the European Union in interstate e-identification and will provide with the possibility of secure online transactions between the citizens, and governmental institutions, will increase the efficiency of both public as well as private business and commercial online services within the European Union.

A. Sartori, the head of the ITRE Committee assured the Minister R. Sinkevičius that the Committee is ready to cooperate closely with Lithuania in order to effectively achieve progress in this particular area.

Development of the trans-European telecommunications network TEN TELE so that the approval of the European Parliament and the Council of the TEN TELE guidelines would be received - is another important priority of the Lithuanian Presidency. The Minister addresses this issue as an urgent one within the European Digital Agenda, which will facilitate creation of the dynamic European Single Digital Market.
