Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and the Grand Hospitaller hailed with joy the close cooperation between Lithuania and the Order of Malta, the active humanitarian work done by the Order of Malta mission in Lithuania, also discussed the interventions of the Order of Malta in the world contributing to the resolution of humanitarian crises caused by conflicts.
Linkevičius thanked the Order of Malta in Lithuania for its humanitarian activities that have spread considerably over the recent years, involving Lithuania’s civil society and various charitable projects.
“The charitable work of the Order of Malta contributes to reducing poverty and social exclusion in Lithuania, while simultaneously strengthens a tradition of social responsibility in our society, especially amongst young people,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
The Grand Hospitaller came to Lithuania on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Order of Malta Relief Organization in this country. Today, the Order of Malta Relief Organization has 1,200 volunteers in 40 towns in Lithuania, who help the poor, the old, people with disabilities and children from disadvantaged families.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has also participated in charity projects of the Order of Malta – employees of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry have joined the annual charitable campaign “Maltesers soup” and the ongoing school campaign “Small heart has big ideas” to help needy families obtain free school supplies for their children.
