When compared to the survey results from last year, the percentage of Lithuanians who view the situation positively has increased by 16 %. In June of 2012 only 28 % of respondents were satisfied with current situation of the country while the rest saw it from a negative perspective.
People who said that the situation is improving were mostly young adults – people under 30 living in cities, highly educated, and financially well off.
Those who indicated their dissatisfaction were people who earned comparatively less, lived in rural areas, and mostly had only high school education.
This survey also evaluated the public opinion about democracy in the country – 51 % of the respondents were dissatisfied with how democracy functions in Lithuania. Four out of ten – 39 % - indicated their satisfaction with democracy.
The satisfaction was also associated with the same factors as in the previous aspect – the happiest were those who are highly educated, young, and well off. The factors stay the same for dissatisfaction as well.
A survey shows a trend of how economic status influences opinion regarding the state of the country and democracy.
