The state-run company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, or LG) transported the Kuzbass company's first shipment via the Lithuanian territory in early August – coal from Meret railway station via Lithuania and the Russian Kaliningrad station traveled to the Chrusciel station in Poland, LG said.
"A schedule has been made for another two trains has been made. The perspective is to have a larger number, with coal traveling on regular basis and total at 250,000 tons of cargo by the end of the year," LG spokeswoman Rima Terminaite told.
In her words, the Russian company used to bring coal to Europe via Belarus until now, furthermore, considered the possibility of transporting it by sea from St. Petersburg.
During its 16 years of operation, the Kuzbass fuel company has extracted more than 94 million tons of coal, including over 16.5 million tons this year.
