'I have to say that social benefits, their administration and distribution will be transferred to municipalities from the beginning of the next year and municipalities will decide for themselves which persons should receive social benefits and which persons should not,' said the head of the Government.
According to Butkevičius, the duration of social benefit payment will change, that is, it will be shortened. At present, the social benefit is paid for an unemployed person for 12 month. Later benefits will be reduced proportionally according to its duration.
According to the Prime Minister, there will no difficulties arising for municipalities due to the administration of social benefits since until now they actually have been performing it anyways, while this function should have been transferred to local authorities long time ago.
