For the January-June period this year, Vilnius Airport saw a nearly 15% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period last year.
“We record a growth in passenger traffic every year and it takes less time every year to reach our major passenger milestones. We are expecting to cross the threshold of 3.5 million travellers at the end of the year; thus, another record-breaking year is ahead of us. In cooperation with airlines, we seek to ensure that Vilnius has as good connectivity by air as possible, and we are always very pleased by passengers choosing the Lithuanian capital as the starting or final point of their trip,” said Indrė Baltrušaitienė, Head of Communications and Marketing at Lithuanian Airports.
Paulius Kilbauskas, the lucky two-millionth passenger, was congratulated before his flight to Copenhagen with SAS. He received Vilnius Airport Privilege Card providing an opportunity of even cheaper flights from the capital.
At the end of June Vilnius Airport celebrated yet another noteworthy milestone - 30 million passengers were served at the capital during 25 years of Lithuania’s independence. On that occasion, warm greetings were sent to all passengers arriving from Amsterdam with airBaltic.
Currently, 18 airlines operate regular flights from Vilnius Airport to 53 destinations. A new airline launched its operations in the capital this year - Germania started with air service to Zürich; besides, flights to Birmingham were launched and air connections to Tallinn, London and Antalya were expanded. In August this year Wizz Air will launch flights from the Lithuanian capital to Nice; starting from the winter season, it will provide air service to Bari, Reykjavik, and Grenoble. Another low-cost airline, Ryanair, will start flights to Leeds, Berlin, and Malta.
