The previously applicable procedure established that the list of the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, persons of Lithuanian origin and their family members residing in the war-affected and occupied regions in Ukraine and wishing to resettle to Lithuania was concluded before 31 December 2015. But after taking into account the fact that the security situation in the Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol City, Donetsk and Luhansk regions has not improved after 1 January 2016, and also in response to the new applications received from the persons of Lithuanian origin by the embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Kiev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, requesting the extension of the deadline of the resettlement program until 31 December 2016. This will make it available for citizens of the Republic of Lithuania and persons of Lithuanian origin residing in unsafe areas who have not yet applied, to contact the embassy of Lithuania in Kiev for the organization of their resettlement.
In total 162 persons have requested resettlement from Ukraine to Lithuania before 31 December 2016, and 124 of them have already been resettled to Lithuania.
Around 10 000 persons of Lithuanian origin live in Ukraine, as well as 1 500 citizens of the Republic of Lithuania.
