"As envisaged in court rulings, the houses will be demolished, we have agreed with the Roma community that as soon as a family moves out of the settlement, one building will be torn down to avoid abuse and terrorizing the municipality about another people moving into vacated buildings and human rights defenders saying again that we cannot touch them," Paluckas told BNS Lithuania.

Under preparation at the municipality for nearly eight months and up for discussion at the City Council on Tuesday, the Roma integration program stipulates that two social workers will at the settlement on a regular basis.

According to results of the latest census of 2011, Lithuania's Roma community included about 2,100 Romas. The Vilnius settlement is the largest area in the Baltic States with dense population of Roma nationals.
