Residents who still have post stamps with their nominal value indicated in the litas, which Lithuania changed for the new currency euro in 2015, are recommended to use them by the end of this year.
"After Lithuania joined the euro area in 2015, litas-denominated stamps are no longer available for sale. Many residents had post stamps they had bought earlier, therefore, a two-year transition period was envisaged to allow payment of postal services with the old litas-denominated post stamps. We urge the population who still have the litas post stamps to use them by the end of this year, as the unused post stamps with litas values will be merely a beautiful historic souvenir in 2017," says Ervinas Vaisnoras, the head of the Post Stamp Publication Department.
By the end of 2016, residents are allowed to send letters and postcards with post stamps with their value in the litas. Meanwhile, the post stamps with their nominal value specified in both currencies can be used indefinitely.
The value of the litas-denominated post stamps has been calculated in accordance to the litas-euro official exchange rage.
