The shift from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Division, U.S. Army, deployed from the base in Vilseck, Germany, will train alongside the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion stationed in Klaipėda and other soldiers of the U.S. rotational forces currently in Lithuania. In addition to that, the U.S. soldiers will cooperate with the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion to train artillery specialists.
The U.S. troops with Cobra Battery, Field Artillery Squadron, will join the company of the U.S. Army, part of the rotating U.S. forces, currently training in Lithuania. They will also be deployed to the Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla.
Lithuania provides full package of host nation support for the deployed allied forces, i.e. lodging, catering, necessary logistical support and military infrastructure.
The United States maintain a rotating presence of land forces in the Baltic States and Eastern Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve since spring 2014. The operation demonstrates U.S. commitment to the allied security in the region in light of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

According to a recent opinion poll, roughly 82% of the population in Lithuania favours the persistent presence of NATO allies on the territory of Lithuania, and 72% of the population believe that NATO allies should send in more personnel and equipment.
