According to the Customs Criminal Service, Lithuania remains an attractive point of transit for drugs, mostly hashish, from the West to the East, and locally-produced synthetic drugs – amphetamine – are taken to Scandinavia. The trend of sending drugs from abroad by mail also continues.
Mostly hashish shipments were detained in Lithuania last year when officers found 413 kilos of this drug. In February alone, 220 kilos of this drug were detained. A fairly big shipment of cocaine, weighing 6.5 kilos, was also detained last year.
Postal parcels containing drugs remain one of the most serious problems in the country as 102 out of 111 pre-trial investigations were related to attempts to send drugs by mail. The increased from 85 in 2014.
