There were 162,600 registered unemployed persons in the country on Jan. 1, up by 7.3 % from early December, but down 3.9 % from a year ago.
Some 21,000 new job-seekers were registered with labor exchange offices last month, down by 8.8 % from November 2015 and down by 7.8 % from December 2014.
Employers registered 19,900 new job vacancies last month, down by 18.2 % month-on-month but up by 6.1 % year-on-year.
Some 47.7 % of the unemployed were women and 52.3 % were men.
Among the largest cities, the unemployment rates ranged from the low of 6.3 % in Vilnius to the high of 8.9 % in Panevezys.
