A delegation led by Sadzius discussed an economic survey of Lithuania for 2015, prepared by OECD experts, in Paris on Thursday, with the final presentation of the survey planned for early 2016, the Finance Ministry said.
"We discussed the Economic Survey of Lithuania, a solid analytical foundation that will serve as a starting point for further negotiations on our membership of this elite club, with member states' representatives," Sadzius said in a press release.
"And although, as experience shows, negotiations on full-fledged membership of the organization take several years to complete, entering the stage of direct negotiations is already a big achievement for our country, showing that Lithuania is perceived in the international arena as a reliable, economically developed and stable nation," he said.
All OECD committees will use the survey while assessing Lithuania's readiness for membership and its compliance with the organization's standards.
The OECD currently has 34 member states. Four countries – Lithuania, Latvia, Columbia and Costa Rica – are holding negotiations to enter the organization.
