On 16 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius sent a congratulatory letter to Poland's newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski. Lithuania's Foreign Minister wrote that Poland was Lithuania's strategic partner in the region and an important ally within the European Union, NATO and other international organisations. Linkevičius expressed his determination to further develop bilateral relations in an atmosphere of good-neighbourliness and strategic friendship.
"We have very many common goals, including the strengthening of regional security, ensuring energy security, integration in the field of transport and the use of common historical and cultural heritage," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.
Linkevičius invited Poland's new Foreign Minister to visit Vilnius in the short run.
