From Monday to Wednesday, members of Parliament's Budgets committee vote on their amendments to the draft 2016 EU budget. In a resolution adopted in July, Parliament outlined its priorities, from devoting more resources to the refugee crisis to restoring cuts to the research and innovation programme "Horizon 2020".
On Monday, Mohammed bin Amin Al-Jefri, Deputy Speaker of Saudi Arabia's Consultative Assembly, is in AFET to discuss with MEPs the situation in his region. Human rights issues and use of the death penalty are likely to be raised by members.
On the same day, the six nominees for Parliament's 2015 Sakharov Prize are to be officially presented by the political groups at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Development committees and the Human Rights subcommittee. The prize is awarded every year by the EP to honour human rights defenders.
The political groups prepare for next week's plenary, which will see King Felipe of Spain, French President François Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel address MEPs.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, a seminar for journalists on novel food is organised with the participation of MEPs, civil society representatives and experts.
