The President pointed out that Denmark was an important long-standing partner and ally of Lithuania that supported our accession to the European Union and NATO. Lithuania greatly appreciated Denmark's participation in NATO's air policing mission in the Baltics. The two countries maintained dynamic economic contacts, with Denmark ranking as Lithuania's 6th largest investor.
The President underlined that successful cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic states at international level was on top of Lithuania's foreign priority list. We were grateful for Denmark's support to the Lithuanian bid for the UN Security Council as well as to its membership in the OECD.
Dalia Grybauskaitė thanked Denmark for sharing its experience in connection with Lithuania's preparations to preside over the Council of the European Union. The Lithuanian presidency priorities were discussed in particular, with special focus placed on three objectives: financial stability, smart growth and job creation, open and safe Europe and its neighborhood.
Enhanced cooperation between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries - also a Lithuanian presidency priority - was reviewed. The EU-Eastern Partnership Summit, scheduled for November in Vilnius, is expected to become a key event of its kind. Lithuania believes that Denmark will be represented also in the forum at the highest level.
