"We take the illegal migration challenge very seriously, and we understand the extent of the problem, which calls for greater solidarity among the European Union member-states. Our Cabinet will discuss tomorrow the Commission's proposal for Lithuania to accommodate more refugees", said the Prime Minister while on his visit to Israel.
The Head of Government has emphasized Lithuania's strong support for the preservation of the Schengen area, and commitment to contribute to the common efforts in reinforcing the external borders.
Today, the European Commission's President, Jean-Claude Juncker invited Lithuania to accommodate additional 780 refugees, which would make the total number of 1105 in the country. The current overall number of refugees to be distributed among the EU states stands at 120 thousand.
