In addition, the aim of the Prime Minister's visit is to call the attention of international community to the fact that the conflict is not over and Ukraine needs further support from Western countries aiming to ensure security as well as political and economic stability in the country.
"Lithuania loyally supported and continues to support Ukraine's resolution to take the path of democracy, reforms and the supremacy of law. The aim of this visit to Ukraine is to call the attention of the world community to the on-going conflict in the eastern Ukraine and contribute to the mobilization of European support for Ukraine", says the Head of Government Algirdas Butkevičius.
The Prime Minister is planning to discuss with the President of Ukraine Petro Porošenka painful but vital reforms aimed at stimulating economy and attracting foreign investments as well as possibilities to co-operate in the sectors of logistics and energy as well as in the fields of information and high technologies.
During the meeting with the Head of the Government of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk the Lithuania's Prime Minister will inquire about the preparedness of the country to implement the Ukraine-European Union Association and Free Trade Agreement. As Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has put it, Lithuania's experience has shown that implementation of such an agreement is the only way to modernize the economy and become a more competitive country.
During the visit to Ukraine the Prime Minister will participate in the opening ceremony of the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in the town of Bila Tserkva. The activities of the Consulate are expected to offer more opportunities to start joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian projects as well as successfully develop bilateral relations.
In Ukraine Agreement on the Establishment of the Youth Council and Protocol on Support to Ukraine in the Field of Transport will be signed and the sitting of Business Councils of Lithuania and Ukraine will take place.
