According to the Lithuanian President, the Ukrainian people mark Independence Day showing to the whole world that they are a nation that loves freedom and bravely fights for it. The President pointed out that the choice of the Ukrainian people to preserve the unity of the country and build an open, democratic and prosperous state was characteristic of a responsible and mature society.
"Lithuania sincerely supports your commitment to defending your state and consolidating its independence. The spirit of friendship and freedom that unites our people has grown stronger over the past several years. I feel confident that close relations between the people of the two countries, wide-ranging cooperation and benevolent support will contribute to strengthening our states," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that the togetherness of the Ukrainian people in securing the future of their state is an inspiring example leading to a European and free Ukraine in a united Europe.
On the occasion of Independence Day, the President wished Petro Poroshenko and the people of Ukraine strength, peace and prosperity.
