The minister visited Rukla and Jonava last week and assured the district's mayor and community that migrants will not pose danger to national security or public order.
"The Interior Ministry will do the job and security will not be affected," the minister reiterated in an interview to radio Ziniu Radijas.
According to Skvernelis, refugees will have "fairly good" living conditions in Rukla, whereas the Refugee Reception Centre will undergo repairs before their arrival.
In two years Lithuania will have to receive 325 refugees, European Union (EU) member states still have not distributed 2,500 migrants. The interior ministers of the EU member states will discuss this in October.
The minister says Lithuania's position is that the number of refugees to be received is final, but negotiation is a matter of compromise and thus the number might change still.
